I don't pretend to be negative but the reality is NO.

The market in Modigliani is probably one of the worst, but the rest is more or less the same so I will expand it to all the names.

A few months ago the most respected art gallery in the whole world (165 years in the market) had to close from one day to the next, the reason: Sold fakes worth more than 50 million bearing names such as Pollock, Rothko, Motherwell and so on.

Apply this example to the rest, if the most respected art gallery (source for the main museums and most wealthy collectors for the last two centuries) is capable of being "taken in" by a forger (or by another dealer) everyone should be totally aware of the fact that there is no undoubted source at all.

The only way to be sure that gold is gold is to scratch the surface and then use a chemical reaction liquid, then you can be sure you bought gold, well, in art it is the same but with even more precautions.  Only science can say free of doubt if the Bonnard or Rothko sold in the past months is really what the seller said.

But the Art market stills looks in another direction (to protect their past)...
Facts:
  1. A rock solid provenance has no value.
  2. Chemical pigments composition has no value.
  3. Infrared images has no value.
  4. The opinions of people in direct contact with the work of an artist in museums has no value.
  5. The opinions of renowned art historians has no value.
  6. Inventories of works from old galleries has no value.

THE OPINION OF A SON HAS MORE VALUE THAN THE OPINION OF THE ARTISTS THAT CREATED THE PAINTINGS.

I Call it: GTK*

*Genetic transmission of knowledge (a great mystery of nature that only affects relatives of artists).
