There is a picture at the Alexandre collection that shows the work ( Modigliani Unknown, drawings from the Alexandre collection, p. 60)

1.- There is a some sort of rare effects with the shadows, the painting in the wall is the beggar woman and is almost invisible and it is in plain light while the bust of young woman is totally in light and visible.
Light comes from the back of the players?

2.- The shadow of the chess player should place in shadows the painting as it does with the couch

But I guess it is just a trick of light.

Another picture from the same time shows the same frame in a different position but this time the painting inside is totally different.



if we apply a digital infrared to the painting frame area we see a totally different painting:



a woman in profile?
or maybe its just another frame and painting or a trick of light...

So based in the Restellini's method this photo should be a fake????
