Jeanne Modigliani raised the possibility that the sitter is Fabriano de Castro. This investigation notes that a Fabriano de Castro shown in Brussels belonged to Pfannstiel, was dated 1918 by him, and measured 46 × 29 cm.

A second painting of the same subject was sold by Knoedler in the 1960s (1916-w-51).
